There are many public baths in Korea. People frequent these baths all over the country. Depending on the type, they have different names. Some are called "saunas." Others, called jjimjjilbang, are more like spas. The public baths are not only places to wash up. Visitors can work up a sweat in both dry saunas and wet saunas. Many places also sell light snacks or full meals. These places are catching on with foreign visitors and tourists. Sometimes some public baths can serve as makeshift motels, because they have areas where you can get some sleep. Peak season for public baths is usually in the wintertime. However, any season is a good time go to.
