A very popular activity - although I don't personally participate in it - is to watch TV on New Year's Eve. And this period is actually one of the periods with the highest viewership in the year because the big networks bring together A-list celebrities and TV personalities and singers for action-packed programming throughout the day. Following New Year's, there's also a tradition to visit the temple within the first few days of January. Some people take the initiative and do this early in the morning of January 1.

An Extra second to be added to 2016

2016 will be one second longer than usual after a leap second is tacked on at one second before 2017 begins. Officials at the U.S Naval Observatory says that the additional second will be added to its master clock in Washington, DC at 23 hours, 59 minutes, 59 seconds Coordinated Universal Time, or UTC. Traditionally, measurements of time have been based on the rotation of the earth. These days, official time is measured with an atomic clock, which uses the oscillation of the nucleus of an atom and its electrons to provide very accurate time.
